Thanks to Larry Hodge for these instructions!
Over the past few months, I’ve experienced the well-known issue of stuck or hung content updates in Accordance Bible Software: Certain modules perpetually fail to update. I tried to delete the cache files but it didn’t work — Accordance simply re-created the files after a restart, suggesting this data is stored elsewhere (possibly in a database or in the cloud).
I found a workaround that works reliably on Windows 11. I'm sharing this here in hopes it will help fellow users and possibly make its way into the official support documentation.
Step-by-Step Fix
1. Identify stuck modules: · Open Accordance. · Go to Utilities > Check for Content Updates. · Record the names of any modules that consistently fail to update. 2. Quit Accordance: · Use Ctrl+Q or go to File > Quit. 3. Launch Accordance in Safe Mode: · Hold the ALT key while starting Accordance. · Under Connectivity, check Disable Automatic Updates. · Click Launch Accordance. 4. Open Library window (if not visible): · Key Ctrl+Alt+1 or click Library icon. 5. Remove stuck modules: · Use the Library search bar to locate a stuck module by name. · Right-click the module > select Remove Item > then Delete Item. · Repeat for all affected modules. | 6. Quit and restart Accordance: · This saves the changes you made. 7. Manually get content updates again: · Go to Utilities > Check for Content Updates. · Stuck modules should be cleared. 8. Reinstall deleted modules – Easy Install: · From the Content Update dialog, click Easy Install. · Select the modules you deleted earlier and click Install. · Modules should install successfully and be at the current version level. 9. Re-enable automatic updates: · Go to Edit > Preferences > Updates. · Check “Automatically Check” for both Application and Content Updates. · Set the update intervals for each according to your preference. |
Result:
Accordance should now run normally, with all modules updated and the hanging issue resolved. This method seems safe and risk-free as it uses features already built into Accordance. We hope this is officially documented soon — until then, please share with others who need it.
NOTE: This is a community-contributed workaround and not
an official Accordance Software support document!
