Automated App Updates Setting on IOS

Not sure when the new IOS version will be available, but I am concerned about coordinating the update with my Windows desktop. Should I shut off automated app updates on my iPad and iPhone to make sure I can do this? I do not want to lose sync capability between Windows and IOS.  Thanks.

  Both desktop and mobile that supports syncing are available.
