IPad OS will not bring up pop-up windows

I used to be able to tap on footnote numbers in a biblical text and the note would pop up in a small window.  this feature has recently stopped working.

  i thought i responded to this, but i guess i didn't.  Ipad Pro M4.  OS 18.6.2 and Accordance is 3.4.4.
