Accordance is trying to show the corresponding verse, which is not always the verse with the same number, because there are several different versification systems in use, and every Bible translator has the opportunity to introduce a new one. You need to choose a Bible with a matching versification system when you import the User Bible. If you don't, you get the King James Version versification.

Nevertheless, since I can't find a Bible with a versification where NA28 Mark 10:45 corresponds to Mark 10:46, I think what is going on here is that, at some previous point in your Bible, you have a chapter that contains a different number of verses from the Bible whose versification you are using when you import. So, once again, the problem is to find the correct versification to use for import. You need to find one that is as close as possible to having the same chapter numbers and the same number of verses in each chapter. If you are making a lot of custom Bibles, the easiest way to find an appropriate versification is with BibleMultiConverter, which can automate the process of checking a Bible against a series of versifications. I think it can also adapt a Bible to a versification that doesn't quite match by combining verses if there are too many or adding empty verses if there are too few.

    Hi there jlm

I did some testing today and we discovered there was a missing verse in Mark 10:30.

While I get there might be a need for versification, I'm not completly impressed with it. And I believe my report here becomes more of a feature request now:

I would love if a Bible Text just sticks to the assigned verse instead of doing versification against a different Bible. Because I believe versification can give flaws - and doing it without can also do it. But I believe that when I search for a given verse, the result should be the same across all. Not one or two before/after because of a missing verse between translations.

In my case it's not particually helpful, because I'm helping on a new Bible translation.

What you want does the Standard KJV import. (Not if you choose the KJV from the Bible list). But not always. I have reported the verses it doesn't work like that in the old forum as far as I have seen.

So for example if you lack a verse it, this is simply empty in Accordance.

    Hi Nicolai Skødt Holmgaard

There has to be some versification defined, especially for the Old Testament, where the BHS, LXX, and Vulgate all differ in versification. If Accordance shows verses that have the same number instead of verses based on the versification, you won't be able to compare translations with the original and ancient versions or with other modern versions. In the New Testament, versification differences are less frequent. All sophisticated Bible software represents and adjusts for versification differences to line up corresponding text: BibleWorks (no longer sold, but still used by some), Logos, Paratext, and even the SWORD Project.

What I think could be improved is User Bible import, which could be made more robust so that it either warns about missing verses or automatically makes them blank. Right now, it silently makes a User Bible that will display incorrectly, as you experienced. I would consider that a bug that ought to be fixed, but I don't think it has ever been a priority to deal with it, though it has been known for years. There are also other ways in which User Bible import is fragile. The advantage of BibleMultiConverter is that it knows about the weaknesses of Accordance's importer and works around them.

Going to file this under Feature Requests since it's not “technically” a bug but something that could be improved for overall usability. Feel free to vote on Nicolai Skødt Holmgaard 's post above so we can track how many people are interested in this.

I would love to have this fixed in Accordance, rather than relying on a third-party open source project to work around Accordance bugs.

(It has been a while since I tried to get BibleMultiConverter working, and I don't remember what obstacles I hit, but it's not safe to assume it is even a viable option.)

Just import with any Bible, except the Standard KJV. No need for the developers to make a change. Accordance will recognize YOUR verse mapping.

But then don't expect to be in parallel with other Bibles. Which you complain about your first post.

Accordance Bible If someone has a Bible in KJV verse mapping and lacks some verses. Some times Accordance recognize it and put a - - as replacement, so the parallel is still intact. But sometimes it doesn't recognize the lacking verses and then the parallel is off. I have no clue why it behaves like this. It could be improved to always recognize it. Again only in the Standart KJV import (the hard coded one). Not in all others, there Accordance behaves differently. I have reported some examples. It would be good if all verses less than the standard KJV get the - -.

    What do you want exactly?

    Fabian True.

I have tried so many different Bibles.

KJV wouldn't even import because there are several different verses. I tried with ESV, NET, and the best alternative I got was World English Bible.

But it doesn't matter much now. The Danish Bibles are currently in development and I am reviewing some of it as we speak.
