User notes don't merge due to 'inconsistent corpus'

In preparation for the upcoming ability to sync user notes across devices, I wanted to rename my existing user notes. I know better than to try to rename the files in my Documents folder, so I created a new User Notes file in Accordance called “My Notes” and then used the Merge Notes function to merge “My Mobile Notes” (my existing user notes file) into My Notes. But I get the error message “These User Notes cannot be merged, because their references are not in the same corpus.” Any clues to what's going on, and what I could do? (Of course, I can always live the rest of my life with 'My Mobile Notes' as the name of my user notes file!) But it makes me wonder what's up with merging notes, and what are the “corpus” rules we should be aware of?
