Highlighting
When I apply a highlighting style to all the hits in a search, the highlight extends beyond the selected word. For example, if in this sentence I want to highlight the word “sentence”, it will highlight “sentence I”….selecting the space and first letter of the next word. It does this for all the hits in the search.
Is this a known issue and is there a fix?

What specific version of Accordance and operating system? Have you tried with other highlight files?

Sorry, I'm not very experienced with this. I have not tried it with another highlight file, though I must confess I don't know what a highlight file is.

You can go to Window>New Highlight file and see if that works.
We also need to know if you're on Mac or Windows and which version of Mac or Windows.
We also need to know what specific version of Accordance you're on. You can find it on “About Accordance” the Accordance menu (Mac) or the Help menu (Windows).

In my experience, apply highlighting to hits results can have some unexpected quirks such as David Hart notes. I too have seen the highlighting omit or extend by a character or two. My suspicion is that buried in the coding are some characters that are either ignored or included by the search, e.g., periods, accents… It would be great if it worked perfectly, but for now, I've had to manually clean up highlighting.
The other option, to use your example, instead of searching for “sentence,” search for “sentenc”
See what that does.0 -
Highlighting has been a nightmare for me since I bought my new Mac . Apparently Accordance cannot keep up with Apple. That makes sense to me. Neither can I. Still it is counter productive to all Apple and Accordance users. Thank God we still have bible's and books. We just have to still pay for programs that are ahead or can't keep up. I try to remember though there are companies out there ( Accordance I believe to be one) That is doing its best. Oh the forever broken highlights. Why did they ever come out with them?
Per Mark Hoffman My suspicion is that buried in the coding are some characters that are either ignored or included by the search, e.g., periods, accents… It would be great if it worked perfectly, but for now, I've had to manually clean up highlighting.
